I’ve been told that some of the best parts about The Light Nearby was reading about all the interesting stories and experiences I had while touring the country for 10 months. Since I’ve gotten back to Boston I worked like crazy on the post production of the album and creating this website. Now that both are finally completed, and I’m officially moved back into Boston, I plan to start reposting all the crazy and interesting stories that happen to me. I’ve never believed in living an average life and my goal everyday is to work non-stop while making it interesting.
To back up a bit, the most interesting stories began on the weekend before St. Paddy’s Day. That was the first weekend after releasing The Light Nearby and up until that point I was working like crazy on finishing up the album and distributing it. Back when I went to UMass Amherst we had a weekend called Blarney Blowout and it involved partying the whole weekend before St. Paddy’s Day.
Boston has the craziest St. Paddy’s Day celebrations out of anywhere I’ve ever been to, so it was good being back here to celebrate it with friends. It began Friday night where I went out with friends to a local bar to listen to Irish music – the picture above is from that night. Next we woke up Saturday morning at 7am to start celebrating, which was a bit difficult because we went to bed around 2-3am.
We arrived at Baseball Tavern around 9:30am because they were having a Blarney Blowout event, so I got to see a ton of UMass Alumni that I hadn’t seen in a while. After partying there for a bit, me and some of my friends bounced around to different bars and clubs all around the city. We got back to my place at roughly 5pm, took a nap, and then began getting ready for a house party later that night.
The next morning we went to my friends place in Southie (aka South Boston) for the parade. My friend had a keg that had green beer, and although I’m not the biggest fan of beer, it was pretty interesting. We partied all day and then watched the parade, decked out in all St. Paddy’s Day gear:
After the parade we went to Lee Chen’s, a Chinese-Mexican restaurant (the one that I talked about in my Lyft Story). I got a General Tso’s burrito, which was fucking amazing.
In the week that followed I started working on my next album, which is going to be a 5-song EP. There’s a lot of interesting ideas I have planned for the album and I’ve already finished up one track on it. I made an Instagram video of me “DJing” the song with my Car, here’s a mini preview:

They came back to our house and we started playing loud reggaeton music around 2am. After talking for a bit, it turns out that one of them did Capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art that I used to do back at URI. As a result, we started doing Capoeira in my living room around 3am. I haven’t done Capoeira in a while and it’s a huge love of mine, so it was interesting to do it for the first time in years in my living room at 3am.
The very next night I went to my friends place and we jammed out for hours. We had saxophone, drums, keys, bass and guitar, and we just picked a key and went with it. I haven’t jammed out like that since high school, so it was a perfect way to spend a Saturday night. Afterwards we listed to my favorite Ska artists like Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish. After getting back to my place, me and my brother then watched some episodes of How I Met Your Mother.
Fast Forwarding a few days, last night I performed at Wonder Bar in Allston and opened for Fat Aztec and Mister F. Both bands were dope and definitely worth checking out – their style is jamtronica-like, combing a rock feel with electronic elements and organic instruments.
Lastly, after a good night, I woke up this morning to an amazing email. This person emailed me about my Get Motivated mixes, and it’s absolutely amazing to receive emails like this.
