Parkour

Getting Snailed, Hardcore Parkour and Buck DJing

Holy Shit. That’s all I can say, as this past weekend was honestly one of the craziest 3 days of my life. There has been a ton of things going on and even more to come – the future is looking more and more amazing each day.

This weekend really began Friday morning when I got an important meal: McDonalds Breakfast. I got McDonalds Breakfast every time I was traveling from one city to the next for The Light Nearby, so every time I have it I know something good is coming up. From that point onward, this weekend was non-stop and insane.

I finished the main part of a book I’m writing recapping my adventure from last year making The Light Nearby. The book is now 90% done, as all I have to finish up is two bonus chapters at the end. The bulk of my Friday morning was spent writing the book and I can’t wait to have the first draft officially completed.

Around noon I had to stop writing and head to an audition for a speaking rule in a major feature film. I can’t say anything more than that for legal reasons but acting is a huge passion of mine as I love being in front of the camera. In addition, auditioning is a ton of fun, especially when it’s for a major role.

After the audition I rushed back to my house to continue writing the book. I wrote until the late afternoon, as there was a huge concert that for one of my favorite producers: Snails. I featured Snails’s Volume 2 mix for one of my Freccero Feature Fridays because his style is unreal and his productions are incredible. To prepare for the show properly, I had people over and we pregamed while jamming out to heavy bass music.

We got to Prime an hour before he was going on set, so I went to the VIP area and ended up meeting Snails and talking to him for a bit. He’s a wicked nice guy, and of course we had to take a picture with the patented Snails hand sign:

Snails

He absolutely killed it that night, dropping crazy bass/dubstep/buck/vomitstep tracks.

The next morning I woke up and produced a bit as I’m already working on track 3 of my next upcoming EP. The EP is going to contain 5 tracks that really define my sound as a producer (as oppose to The Light Nearby where I explored different musical genres). I only produced for a little bit, as the next part of my journey began: Hubbable. Hubbable is a yearly Parkour event that happens in Boston – and it couldn’t have been more perfect this year. They called this year’s event Hubbable 2015 – Callipygian, and the word Callipygian means “having well-shaped buttocks.”

It was extremely nice out, as it was honestly the first nice weekend in Boston since we had to deal with the ridiculous snowfall this past winter. The Parkour community is extremely tight, so it was good seeing people that I hadn’t seen in years. We jammed out at the Baby Pool, and it was finally good to move again as I hadn’t done Parkour in a few months. There are so many good spots at the Baby Pool, and I got some solid footage from numerous locations. Here’s a brief video that I had someone take when I was trying a funky flip over a set of stairs:

I jammed out for a few hours, and then I got in my car and started driving to a temporary Parkour gym my friend was building for that night. On the way there a really interesting event happened.

I always believe in making the most out of any opportunity because you never know what can come about. While I was driving I saw these two guys standing in the middle of the road taking pictures of a nice car, and on the other side of the road was a Rockstar Energy truck. I quickly pulled over and went up to talk to them, and basically explained who I was and that I was a DJ/Entrepreneur. I got his contact information, because who knows where that could go. After getting his information and a couple free cans of Rockstar, I went to the gym.

The temporary Parkour gym looked incredible, as my friend had built it in only two days. I was DJ’ing the Parkour event that night, so I set up all my equipment and then helped him finish building some of the platforms and landings. The gym came out amazing, as my friend Travis is insane at construction.

After finishing everything up we decided to snag a drink, so I went to a local store to get a small bottle of wine. Because we had some little kids coming to the jam I put the wine in a Gatorade bottle. It definitely felt weird drinking red wine out of a Gatorade bottle but it was like being in college again – and on a good note, Red Wine is actually really good for you.

I DJ’ed the event from 8pm – midnight and it was absolutely insane as we had 400 people in that warehouse. I played a mix of dubstep, glitch hop and breakbeat as those are the best genres for some Hardcore Parkour.

After DJing I packed everything up and then drove to my friends birthday party. Luckily it was only a half hour away, so I got there a little before one. I saw friends there that I hadn’t seen in a while, so we all partied until about 3ish.

The next morning was part two of Hubbable and we all went to Chinatown because that spot is incredible. Two years ago I went there and tried to do a handstand walk up this set of 20-25 stairs, and I got two away from the top and fell. I hadn’t tried it since then because I was pissed, so this year I decided to try it again and I finally did it (fuck yea!). Hubbable 2015 was incredible, and I made a brief recap video of the two day event:

After Hubbable 2015 I went to my friends place because he was having a cookout. By that point I was absolutely exhausted but it was good to finally relax and hang out without having to move. We had some bomb burgers and caught up on everything that had been going on. I almost passed out on his couch because I was so exhausted, so I left around 6ish to get back to my place.

It was definitely one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while, especially with so many different events going on. These next couple weekends are going to be just as crazy, so there’s going to be a lot of stories in the near future.
