Without question, Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite video game ever. Everything from the gameplay, to the graphics, to the story line, and more, makes this game incredible from start to finish. One of the best parts of the game, and especially the most notable, is how incredible the music is.
Recently, I started doing some YouTube Gaming on the side, and I decided to play Zelda: Ocarina of Time. As a result, I really wanted to put my own spin on one of the tracks from the game, and I decided to go with one of my favorites: Song of Storms.
I used a lot of the elements from the original song, while adding in my own upbeat tech house/electro groove to make it funky and interesting.

Kicking this track off, I decided to use the main theme and melody from the original. I made this from scratch, just because I wanted it to have a certain feel from the beginning. Then, after the second time the melody is played, I immediately jump into a build to generate a rapid change of pace.
On the first drop, I went for a very staccato-like groove along with tech house percussion and a strong electro bass. I also used a lot of pitch bending and various elements to make it a bit more funky and interesting. In addition, I added in a lot of sound effects from the game when Link would be fighting, but I put them more in the background to be more subtle.
As it transitions into the second verse, I use the same melody from the beginning, this time with a saxophone, as I like the texture it had compared to the rest of this song. Inevitably, I then build the track back up, finally ending the build with a “Hey! Watch Out!” from Navi of the game.
The second drop I wanted to be a bit more heavy and legatic, where I have the notes held out as oppose to playing them faster. This drop then continues similar to the first one, just with some added sound design differences and note syncopations.
