Moana [Version by Alessia Cara] – How Far I’ll Go (Freccero Remix)

No Comments Music

I always like to broaden my horizons when it comes to producing music, so when I heard the track How Far I’ll Go from the Disney movie Moana, a remix instantly popped into my head. Now the interesting thing about the original track is that there’s two versions: The one sung in the movie by Auli’i Cravalho, and then another done by Alessia Cara. For this remix, I decided to use Alessia Cara’s version, as I felt it was better for production purposes.

This is an uplifting, Future Bass remix I did of the track, blending the amazing vocals from the original with my production style.

Song Explanation

For this track I really felt the need to remix it, as I like Alessia Cara’s version, but wasn’t a fan of the chorus/drop. So I started the track off the verse from the original, blended with my own atmospheric effects. I also layered her vocals with an octave above and below, in order to create a more powerful feeling.

I then build the song up with some percussive effects so the drop is more drastic, and then on the drop I used a really long reverb tail when she says “go” to create a smooth transition. On the drop, I used a melodic chord progression with Future Bass-style synths with a rhythmic pattern, blending all of this with Tropical House elements. On the second part of the drop, I bring in an uplifting synth with a unique melody to complement the rest of the elements.

It then transitions into the second verse, which is basically the same as the original track. It then builds again into the second drop, which is pretty unique.

So on the second drop there’s a key change, which is why the energy increases and why it might sound a bit different. In addition, unlike the first drop, I have her vocals continue on, so I blend her vocals with my own production elements. Then I continue out with the drop, using the reverb tail from the original track to create a smooth atmosphere. Like the first drop, I bring back in the uplifting synth, which I then transition to close out the track.

I’ve never remixed a Disney track before, so this was definitely a unique production project that came out a lot better than I thought it would. I’ve posted the lyrics below as well!

I’ve been standing at the edge of the water
‘Long as I can remember, never really knowing why
I wish I could be the perfect daughter
But I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try

Every turn I take, every trail I track
Every path I make, every road leads back
To the place I know, where I can not go
Though I long to be

See the line where the sky meets the sea it calls me
And no one knows, how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I’ll know, if I go there’s just no telling how far I’ll go

I know, everybody on this island seems so happy on this island
Everything is by design
I know, everybody on this island has a role on this island
So maybe I can roll with mine

I can lead with pride, I can make us strong
I’ll be satisfied if I play along
But the voice inside sings a different song
What is wrong with me?

See the light as it shines on the sea it’s blinding
But no one knows, how deep it goes
And it seems like it’s calling out to me, so come find me
And let me know, what’s beyond that line, will I cross that line?

See the line where the sky meets the sea it calls me
And no one knows, how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I’ll know, how far I’ll go

Have your say
