God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Happy Holidays! With the winter finally being here, I decided to produce my own spin on God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I decided to produce this as a Trap track, as I found it fit the main melody well and complemented it perfectly.

Rather than spin the track in a different way, I decided to keep the signature melody in tact, just adding a few different elements to make it come to life.

Song Explanation

I loved doing tracks based off a certain theme, especially for events. I’ve already done tracks about Cinco De Mayo, Halloween, 4th of July and more. With it being the holidays and winter season, I really wanted remix a Holiday track – and I’ve always been a huge fan of the melody of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

I started this track off with a heavy percussion groove along with choir stabs – immediately setting the Trap vibe. In addition, I used a jingle bells sample to create the festive spirit.

Upon the first verse, I used a synth with a heavy beat delay to create suspense for the main drop. I also filtered it a bit, removing the high end – that way, when the song eventually drops, it sounds more intense and powerful.

The song inevitably builds, which I then drop into the first chorus. For this drop, I kept the exact melody intact, literally not changing any part of it. I added a heavy 808 in the background to make the low end pump, along with other elements to make it interesting.

Next, I build the song up again, but for this second chorus I decided to make things interesting. Because I already played the melody of the original, I decided to do a little remix of my own and variate the notes a bit.

The track then concludes the same way it starts, having the choir stabs finish it off.
